Zebrafish reveal wider role for gene linked to human albinism
WSU Vancouver researchers are using zebrafish to uncover how OCA2, a gene linked to albinism, influences eye development. Their findings reveal unexpected changes in pigment cells, eye formation and the activity of dozens of genes, suggesting OCA2 may play a broader role in development than previously understood. The research could eventually help explain vision problems associated with albinism and inform future treatment strategies.
