VANCOUVER, Wash. – Prospective college students and their parents can get expert help filing for financial aid for college next fall at College Goal Washington, a free event that helps students and families complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid).
Did you know Washington state ranks 49th in FAFSA filing? At the same time, the Washington College Grant is the most generous state college need grant in the country. This year, a family of four making up to $102,000 can qualify for financial aid in Washington. More Washington residents are able to attend college for less money—many for free. But students have to file the FAFSA or WASFA to access it.
Most students need financial aid to pay for college, whether they choose a four-year university, community college, vocational or technical school. Completing the FAFSA or WASFA is the first step in receiving financial assistance for education beyond high school. Students looking to attend WSU Vancouver next fall should complete their application by Jan. 31.
College Goal Washington will be offered from 5:45 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 16, 30 and Dec. 9 and from 3 to 5 p.m. Dec. 3. All workshops will be held in Undergraduate Building, Room 100 at Washington State University Vancouver. Translation assistance will be available for Spanish speakers. Guests please bring:
- Your social security card/number or Alien registration (if you have one)
- Your driver’s license (if you have one)
- Your tax returns or income information from two years ago
- Any additional financial information (child support statements, TANF or welfare information; real estate, stock or bonds investments; family business or farm information)
- If you are under 24 years of age, you will also need most of this information for the parent(s) you are required to report on your application
