VANCOUVER, Wash. - Washington State University Vancouver's campus will become more accessible to the public thanks to the recent passage of a ballot measure designed to improve the availability of public transportation in Clark County.
To celebrate C-Tran's return to campus, WSU Vancouver students, staff and Chancellor Hal Dengerink will be on board the inaugural ride from the Salmon Creek Park ‘n Ride to the Vancouver campus on Monday, Jan. 9, 2006.
WSU Vancouver's Salmon Creek campus opened in 1996 as a transfer institution for upper-division students and graduate students, and next fall will become the first branch campus in the WSU system to admit lower-division students.
Because of the greater number of students expected on campus next year and the opening of the Clark Center building this month, "the passage of the C-Tran measure comes at a very timely juncture for us," said Lynn Valenter, WSU Vancouver's vice chancellor for finance and operations. "We're excited to have C-Tran return. They've been a partner with WSU Vancouver since the campus opened. We've missed their service." Service was discontinued in 1999 subsequent to the passage of I-695.
WSU Vancouver offers 15 bachelor's and nine master's degrees in more than 35 fields of study. The campus is located at 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave., east of the 134th Street exit from either I-5 or I-205.
