An artist, author and educator, Turiya Autry encourages social change and creativity and encourages people to look more critically and lovingly on the world. Her work incorporates the arts, pop culture and history with personal, community and political struggles. She has taught for more than 10 years at Portland State University and began teaching at WSU Vancouver this fall. In 2007, she received the Jon Eliot Outstanding Teacher Award at PSU, and over the years she coordinated a wide array of campus and community events. She has also worked with more than 50 K-12 schools, more than two dozen colleges and hundreds of venues throughout the United States, as well as in Mexico, Canada and Rwanda.
The Cultural Arts and Equity Hip-Hop Series is designed to broaden the community’s understanding of how cultural arts through hip-hop can cultivate an inclusive campus community that centers the success of historically underserved students.
