A Cultural Arts and Equity Hip-Hop Series event

Based in Pittsburgh, Pa., Jasiri X is most known for his politically engaged lyrics and music videos discussing political candidates, urban poverty and police violence. Jasiri X uses hip-hop to reach young people and raise social awareness. Well-known within activist circles, he has spoken and performed around the country, including at the 50th anniversary commemoration of the Selma to Montgomery March in spring of 2015.

Jasiri X is the award-winning hip-hop artist, emcee, blogger, and community activist who uses his music to provide social commentary on a variety of issues. He co-founded the anti-violence group One Hood and started the 1Hood Media Academy to teach African American boys how to analyze and create media for themselves.
