Student Computer Labs

Software

Three computer labs with a full complement of software are available to current WSU Vancouver students. The labs consist of Windows XP-based computers with the following software installed on most computers (as of Fall semester 2007).

  • Adobe Photoshop CS2
  • Microsoft Office 2003 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Macromedia Dreamweaver 8
  • Secure telnet and FTP

Clark students should use the computer lab located in room 202 of the Clark building (open Monday through Friday 9:10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) Non-students are welcome to use the computers located in the main room of the library, though those computers do not have the above software.

Printing

Printing costs help to offset toner and paper costs in the labs. Prices below are per page for one-sided prints and per side for two-sided prints. The price for black and white printing is lower thanks to a generous contribution from ASWSUV.

  • Black and white printing: $.05 per page
  • Color printing (LB 102 lab only): $.40 per page
  • Black and white copies (Library copy room only): $.05 per page

Re-value stations (located in the library copy room and the CL 218 lab) allow you to add money to your student I.D. card. The card is then used at the print stations in the labs to print your documents. Those who do not have an I.D. card may get one for free from the second floor of the Student Services building. Print-only cards are also available from the Library Circulation Desk for non-student use in the open library computing area and copy room.

Scheduling for Instruction

VIT also maintains and schedules the use of three instructional computer labs: VMMC 111, VMMC 115, and VCLS 224. The computers in these labs contain software similar to what is available in the student computer labs, though there are some differences.

The computers in VMMC 111 are now Macintosh computers that run both Windows XP and Mac OS X. The classrooms also have instructional podiums with computers and document cameras that feed into ceiling-mounted projectors.

If you are an instructor and would like to schedule the use of an instructional lab, email helplog@vancouver.wsu.edu. Be sure to include the class name, number of computers needed, and days and times the class meets. We will then try to schedule the class in the best available lab. Please be sure to read the policies regarding use of the instructional computer labs (pdf).
