2008 Student Research Excellence Award

2008 Research Award Winners

On April 10th, 2008, the Library announced the winners of the 2008 Student Research Excellence Award. The winning projects were selected based on evidence of advanced and original use of library resources and collections; of exceptional ability in locating, selecting, evaluating and synthesizing research materials; and of overall quality of the project, including clarity of expression and quality of writing style.

1st Place: Amy Huseby for her research paper entitled Full of Tongue: Women and Education in the Early Modern Era.

2nd Place was a tie between:

  • Kathleen Hughes for her research paper entitled Emily Brontes Wuthering Heights and the Anglo-African War of 1838-1842.
  • Tiana Francy, Rebecca Benson, Bryony Melcher, and Cody Moore for their research project entitled Aggressive Behaviors Driven by Resource Availability in Native Water Fowl.

About the Award

To further support undergraduate research, the WSU Vancouver Library offered the Student Research Excellence Award in spring 2008. An award of $300 was be given to the best project, and $150 was awarded to the runner up. The winners were acknowledged during a ceremony at the Research Showcase in April.

The Award is open to any WSU undergraduate student at the Vancouver campus. Submissions will consist of a research project completed for a WSU class during 2007, an endorsement (pdf) from the professor, and an essay describing the use of library research materials. Submissions must be turned in to the Library Circulation Desk by 6pm on March 21st, 2008.
