Office of Student Involvement (OSI) – Recreation Program

A wide variety of recreation programs are planned each term for a broad spectrum of interests and abilities. From paintball to soccer and nature photography to exotic ski trips, all of these programs are paid for or subsized by student fees, making each activity very affordable.

Fitness Center

Located in the Library Building, Room 13 (downstairs)

Facility Description
The newly remodeled facility has a sweeping view of Mt. Hood, has easy access to jogging trails and has showers and lockers. Equipment at this time includes cardio and strength training equipment including free weights, (Olympic bars and plates, barbells and dumbbells). Cardio equipment includes: elliptical trainers, treadmills, a stair stepper and stationary bikes. Strength training equipment includes: shoulder press, pec/reverse fly, chest press, cable crossover with lat pulldown, triceps extension and lat row, a functional trainer, leg extension machine, leg press, leg curl machine, Smith machine and power rack. Medicine balls, jump ropes, balancing equipment, strength bands and stretching mats are also available.

Policy
Use of the fitness center is free to WSU Vancouver students, faculty and staff. However, access is limited to those who have signed a liability waiver. The waiver and Fitness Center card are available in the Fitness Center or in the Office of Student Involvement, located in the Firstenburg Student Commons (FSC). Note: Fitness Center card holders may not bring children or other guests into the facility.

Personal Trainer

A certified personal trainer is available to Fitness Center users at no cost. The trainer typically is scheduled twice a month. Sign-ups for a 20 minute session with the trainer are in the Fitness Center, where the trainer's schedule is posted each semester. Develop a fitness plan, learn how to use the equipment, or develop strength for a specific sport or activity. The sessions are free. Get fit! Stay fit!

Disc Golf Course

Play disc golf on WSU Vancouver's 9 hole disc golf course located east of the library. Disc sets, score cards and maps are available at the Office of Student Involvement, located in the Firstenburg Student Commons (FSC). Also, score cards and maps may be downloaded (PDF).

Cougar Trails

Walk or hike on 4 miles of hiking and all-weather jogging trails in the campus woods northeast of the buildings. Access to the trail system is at the visitor parking lot on the 50th St campus entrance, the "WSU Barn", on Salmon Creek Ave., and at the intersection of the 50th St entrance road and the Campus Circle Drive. Multi-purpose Court

Located west of the main entry drive, opposite the south parking lot, the multi-purpose court can be set up to support the following athletic activities: Basketball, Volleyball, Pickleball and Dodgeball. Equipment for each activity is available for checkout at the Office of Student Involvement. Use of the multi-purpose court is on a first come, first served basis unless it has been reserved by a student group of Office of Student Involvement program.

Equipment Rental

Ski and snowboard packages, tents, packs, mountain bikes, sleeping bags and related gear can be rented at very reasonable rates. Rentals are available in the Recreation Office, Firstenburg Student Commons, Room 136. Complete list of gear and rental rates.

Outdoor Recreation Trips and Clinics

Outdoor activities, trips and instructional clinics are scheduled throughout each term. The list of activities is developed and available at the beginning of each term. An effort is made to appeal to a variety of ages and skill levels. While all activities are subsidized by student fees, some do require a contribution by students. Past outdoor activities have included ski trips to Tahoe and Silver Star, white water rafting, kayaking, paintball, orienteering and professional sports tickets depending on the season. Intramurals and League Sports

Intramurals and League Sports are scheduled throughout each term. WSU Vancouver regularly sponsors soccer, basketball, volleyball and softball teams in various community leagues. In addition, students have the opportunity to participate on campus in disc golf, 3 on 3 basketball, dodgeball, volleyball and pickleball. Summer 2009 Recreation Schedule (PDF).
