Karmen is a sophomore majoring in Public Affairs and is excited to explore her first year as an active ASWSUV member. She is a senator and sits on the finance and budget committees. She is looking forward to working with her fellow students in ASWSUV and on campus to make this year a productive, fun and educational one for the WSUV student body. Karmen loves meeting new people so she encourages you to stop by the office and introduce yourself or contact her with any questions, concerns or ideas you may have about ASWSUV!
Aside from her involvement on campus, Karmen enjoys her part time job as a caregiver at an assisted living facility and spends her free time gaming, travelling and spending time with her friends and family.
Spring Atkinson is a Junior majoring in Digital Technology and Culture with a minor in Anthropolgy. Her studies focus on Social Media. Spring transferred from Lake Washington Technical College in Kirkland, Washington in August of 2008. She is planning to return to the Seattle area upon graduating and work at Nintendo of America. Her passion in life is Social Networking and hopes to study its affects on culture in the future.
This is Spring's second year serving as a Senator and feels she greatly contributes to the Senate's overall scope by representing Non-traditional students. She believes that student involvement is key to a healthy and successful campus. Spring is also passionate about keeping up with technology while attending school in order to have productive graduates.
In her free time, Spring often travels to Seattle to spend time with her daughter and to attend Everett Silvertip hockey games. She enjoys working with music and audio, trying new restaurants, and sleeping. You will often see Spring with her gnome, Rupricht, that she often has with her for good luck or a simple picture taking opportunity. Say "Hi!" to Spring (or Rupricht) around campus!
Boles is a senior at WSU-V, majoring in Social Sciences with a focus in Political Science and Anthropology, as well as working towards a certificate in Social & Environmental Justice. After chairing the Elections Board for the 2009 Election, Boles was appointed to the Senate in June of 2009. Also a Campus Leader for the ONE Campaign and the Senate Secretary, Boles is excited about what this year brings in terms of both ASWSUV and her work with ONE. She looks forward to hearing from students throughout the year, and hopes all of you will stop by to bring your comments and concerns to the Senate.
Robert Chu is a senior double majoring in Public Affairs (Public Policy) and Humanities (English and History). He is also pursuing a Professional Writing Certificate. After obtaining his AA from Clark College (Go Penguins!), Chu has been in several leadership roles here at WSU Vancouver (Go Cougs!). From being a reporter for The VanCougar to serving as Vice Chair and Chair of the Student Media Board, Chu is a strong supporter of the First Amendment. As co-founder of The Academic Journal, he is a strong supporter of scholarly research. From serving as a Senator on the External Affairs Committee last year to expanding that service this year to serving as Chair Pro-tempore of the Senate, he is dedicated to public service and improving student life.
This year, Chu will be revitalizing the Senate to yield an unprecedented level of productivity, service, and leadership.
In his spare time, he likes to read fiction, play strategic board games, and shoot the breeze with friends.
Kevin Guzman is as friendly as Santa Claus, and as awesome as Chuck Norris. His position as chair of the ASWSUV Finance and Budget Committee has him karate chopping and round house kicking numbers all day. He wishes to get people more involved with ASWSUV and become more knowledgeable especially about getting FREE money. A kid coming from Los Angeles at the age of 15 he enjoys not breathing smog all day.
As a new ASWSUV Senator and a member of the Senate's Programming Committee, Phillip Ho looks forward to continuing the projects of the previous Senates with his new method and philosophy. Additionally, he hopes to receive many inputs from the fellow students, whom he represents, and execute their ideas to enhance the campus life. One of his goals for this year is to improve the Student Commons to encourage more student involvement and networking. Phillip Ho, also known as Khoa Ho, is a junior majoring in biology. Outside the academics, he participates in team sports , particularly soccer, and enjoys spending time with his family and WSUV friends. To Phillip, WSUV is his second home.
As a member of ASWSUV, Nick will encourage student involvement whether it is by representing the student body on the senate or promoting events put on by exciting new clubs. By more closely linking the students with ASWUSV through advocacy, leadership and activities, Nick is sure that a progressive, eventful and most of all, fun year lie ahead.
Nick will earn a bachelors of science in biology after graduation this year. Planning on going into the medical field, he hopes to learn more about him self through helping others. In his spare time he loves physical activity such as rock climbing and running. He also very much enjoys discussing current world events with members of his work and listening to music with friends.
Emily Shaw is excited to begin her third year working in ASWSUV, furthering student's needs and interests on campus. Previously, Emily has served in ASWSUV as a Senator and Public Relations Director.
Currently, Emily is the Chair of the External Affairs Committee and member of the Budget Committee and Rules & Administration Committee. She is eager to begin working on numerous projects including providing more community service opportunities for students and increasing the avenues through which students can express their opinions to ASWSUV. As such, Emily encourages everyone to please contact her with any ideas, questions, or concerns related to ASWSUV.
Emily is currently a senior majoring in English with a minor in Political Science. After graduating she intends to go onto law school and ultimately work as general counsel for a corporation. Along with law, Emily is a big fan of literature, photography, hiking, movies and generally relaxing and laughing with friends.
Brandi is excited to be serving as a Senator in her freshman year at WSUV. As a new resident to Washington and an incoming freshman, she believes that everyone has the ability to be active and make the most of their college experience. She hopes to see a greater increase in involvement among the students and is eager to spread the word of ASWSUV and encourage all students to attend events and get involved.
Brandi is a Biology major with a possible minor in psychology. She plans to attend Medical School to get her Doctorate and eventually become a Neurologist.
In her spare time she likes to read, go out with friends, and talk to all of her friends and family back in Illinois and Arkansas. She's widely known as a social butterfly, so don't hesitate to stop and say hello if you see her in the office or around campus!
John Won is one of the current ASWSUV senators, and is excited to serve WSUV students throughout this academic year. While pursuing his two Bachelor's Degrees in Accounting and Finance, John has been elected to represent WSUV students and serve them in such a professional way. John is also a member of both Finance and Budget Committees and assists Committee Chairs in budget allocations.
John is a junior, an international student from South Korea. Based on his leadership skills gained while serving Republic of Korean Marine Corps and throughout voluntary activities, John loves to communicate with other students and encourage them to be a part of ASWSUV.
In his free time, John enjoys both in-door and out-door sports; during summer John likes swimming at the beach and partying over nights. During winter, he loves to go snowboarding and some other extreme sports such as skydiving and bungee jumping. As much as he loves playing, however, John focuses on internalizing himself through reading and studying, volunteering, and communicating with others.
