Career Services – Career Assessments

WSU Vancouver Career Services provides several tools to help students find and decide between career options, depending on their individual needs. These tools include career counseling, the Strong Interest Inventory (SII) and Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). It is recommended that you take both tests at the same time, as they provide different perspectives into yourself and your career options.

  • Both tests are free to all WSU Vancouver students and alumni, and can be taken online, though results can only be given out during a 60 minute appointment with a Career Counselor.
  • Please allow approximately 45 uninterrupted minutes for each test.
  • To learn more about your options or to take the tests, come by Career Services or contact us at or (360) 546-9155.

Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is an instrument that can help an individual understand personality and the attributes of personality that make him/her a unique person. The information enhances understanding of yourself, your motivations, your natural strengths and your potential areas of growth. The MBTI can help individuals understand both how they interact with others and are perceived by others.

People tend to develop behaviors, skills and attitudes associated with their type. When we use our preferred methods, we are generally at our best, feel most competent, natural and energetic. Taking the MBTI allows you to develop an understanding of your personal traits and become aware of the interrelationship between self and occupational choice.

Strong Interest Inventory (SII)

Are you having a difficult time choosing a major or career? Perhaps the Strong Interest Inventory may be helpful to you. This instrument asks a series of questions designed to synthesize your preferences about occupations, school subjects, leisure activities, etc. The goal is to identify your particular pattern of interests. The results help you uncover specific activities and occupations that you may want to explore further. Consider this test an advisable first step for those who don't know where to begin charting their career path.
