What is the Washington State University Vancouver Student Ambassador Program?
The WSU Vancouver Student Ambassador Program is a group of outstanding students who are selected to represent the University to prospective students, their families and the community at large.
Who are the Student Ambassadors?
The most qualified and diverse students from a variety of majors will be chosen to work together to build on our University's outstanding reputation and bring future Cougars to our campus. Students must have completed one semester at WSU Vancouver prior to Spring 2008 and must anticipate a graduation date of May 2009 or later.
What type of work are Student Ambassadors assigned?
Student Ambassadors will offer tours to prospective students, assist with orientation, attend recruiting events, conduct on campus programming and connect with students who have specific questions about our campus community. Ambassadors also attend important campus events and assist faculty and administration in community outreach efforts.
What are the benefits of becoming a Student Ambassador?

What responsibilities do the Student Ambassadors fulfill?
- Ambassadors dedicate an average of six hours per week for the academic year—fall semester 2008 and spring semester 2009. In addition, they serve as ROAR (Orientation) Leaders during summer 2008.
- Ambassadors must enroll in a two credit student leadership class offered Fridays during fall term and attend regular training sessions on Fridays throughout the academic year including summer.

Selection Criteria
Selection Process:
Students must have completed at least one semester of WSU Vancouver courses prior to submitting an application to become a Student Ambassador and must anticipate a graduation date of May 2009 or later.
Paper applications are carefully screened and roughly half of the candidates are selected to participate in the group interview phase. Of the group interviewees, less than half are selected to participate in the individual interview phase. Final selection of 10-12 ambassadors is made from the individual interviews.
Academic Success:
Grades are just one factor considered in the selection of Student Ambassadors. The selection committee will review each applicant's GPA along with the other information such as the written application and the interview process.
Course Load:
Students enrolled in full time coursework are given preference.
Leadership and Communication:
The written application and interview process are designed to assess each candidate's leadership potential and communication skills.
Time Commitment:
Applicants for the Student Ambassador Program will only be considered if they can meet the time commitments listed below.
- Summer 2008 Training/Orientation Days - 5/29, 6/6, 6/13, 6/20, 6/26, 6/27, 7/11, 7/24, 7/25, 8/8, 8/18, 8/19 and 20
- Leadership Class - Fridays during fall semester 2008
- Meetings - Regularly scheduled during spring semester 2009
- Serve an average of six hours per week during the school year (during the course of the school year some weeks require significantly more and some will be fewer than 6 hours)
- Serve the entire 2008-2009 school year
