VISIONS OF THE ROAD

DTC Students at Washington State University Vancouver will give a multimedia presentation of readings and images about the road and automobiles in American society. "Visions of the Road" takes place 4 to 6 p.m. April 15 in the Firstenburg Student Commons. Donations of canned food will be accepted for local food banks, and refreshments will be served. The event is the last of the "Literacies for a Changing World" series at WSU Vancouver.

INTRODUCING THE YELLOW CAT GALLERY & MEDIA LOUNGE

On Wednesday, January 16th the Digital Technology and Culture Program launched the Yellow Cat Gallery & Media Lounge, the online student showcase of digital media work by students in the DTC Program. January's artists include works by Nina Westerberg, Kyle Ralston & Matthew Grammer, Sarah Campeau & Kristen Weigand, and Mike Gowans.

Besides monthly exhibits in the Gallery, future plans include student-produced podcasts of interviews with visiting artists, music, live broadcasts via links to internet radio, and special events to be held in the Media Lounge.

SPRING 2008 CAREER FAIR

The Spring Career Fair is scheduled for Thursday, February 21st, from 4 to 6 p.m. All students interested in internships and career opportunities are invited to attend.

In order to make companies better acquainted with the program, its goals, and training, the DTC faculty will host a reception, prior to the event from 2:30-3:30, for all companies attending the Career Fair.

WSU VANCOUVER STUDENT YOUTUBE VIDEO CONTEST

The Office of Marketing & Communications is conducting a YouTube video contest. This is an excellent opportunity for you to exercise your creative skills, showcase your work in a public forum, and share your school pride with the world! All videos submitted by WSU Vancouver students will be uploaded by the Office of Marketing & Communications to both YouTube.com as well as to WSU VancouverÕs iTunes U site.

Contest Rules:
1. Participants: All WSU Vancouver students are invited to participate.

2. Content: Videos must address the theme, "What I like most about WSU Vancouver." Videos must be original in nature and presented from a first-person perspective.

3. Style: Videos must be candid, reflect the individual studentÕs experience at WSU Vancouver and be representative of the individual studentÕs artistic interpretation. NOTE: videos with offensive or illegal content will not be accepted.

4. Length: Videos must be no longer than 5 minutes in length. Videos exceeding five minutes in length will be automatically disqualified.

5. Credits: Students must list their names in the credits of their video.

6. Contest begins: January 5th, but students can get started over the holiday break.

7. Due date: Submissions are due no later than Feb. 15th. Judging begins February 25th.

8. Format: Please submit videos in QuickTime format to Joe Winton in the Office of Marketing & Communications, winton@vancouver.wsu.edu

In honor of the winners, we will host an Awards Ceremony. The ceremony will take place Tuesday, March 4th, 11:30am Š 1:00pm in the Firstenburg Student Commons. Bring a brown bag lunch, and preview the videos before they go live on YouTube! Contestants need not be present to win.

Prizes for winning videos include Apple video iPods, WSU Vancouver merchandise and more! Videos will be judged by a jury of media specialists from both within and outside of the WSU Vancouver community.

VISIONARY LANDSCAPES: THE ELECTRONIC LITERATURE ORGANIZATION 2008 CONFERENCE

The DTC will host the Electronic Literature Organization's annual conference from May 29-June 1, 2008 on WSUV's campus. 200+ electronic artists will participate in the conference and its accompanying media arts show.

The Keynote for the conference will be given by Mark Amerika. Amerika was named a "Time Magazine 100 Innovator." His work has shown at the Whitney Biennial, the ICA in London, the Walker Art Center, and the Denver Art Museum. A cult novelist, media theorist, web publisher, and VJ artist who has performed has performed internationally, Amerika is the author of many books including his recently published collection of artist writings entitled META/DATA: A Digital Poetics (The MIT Press). He is founder of the Alt-X Network, publisher of the electronic book review (ebr), and a Professor of Art and Art History at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Artists-Theorists Sue Thomas (De Montfort University, UK) and John Cayley (Brown University) will be Featured Speakers at the conference.

WSUV DTC students will be able to attend the conference and interact with these artists as well as the others who will attend. Workshops are also scheduled so that students will have the opportunity to enhance their skills of and knowledge about the media arts.

HAVE YOUR ARTWORK DISPLAYED ON CAMPUS
The Digital Technology and Culture Club and the Information Technology departments are working together to create galleries for student artwork in the computer labs on campus. This is an opportunity for WSUV students to both expose the public with their own art and to improve the conditions of the school's labs.

Submission Details
1. Submissions must be in a format that can hang on a wall
2. Framing and hanging services will be provided at no cost
3. Students retain ownership of the art they submit
