Management
Course Overview
The goal of the Database Management Project is to design and implement a database
system. Projects generally involve groups of 2-3 students.
[M] 3 credits.
Course Objectives
Students select real-world business problems that can benefit from database technologies.
Ideally, this will be a problem where students will have ample data to add to
the database. Teams are charged with designing, developing, and testing a database
to address problems.
Students will follow the systems development model taught in this course to:
- Analyze the problem
- Perform data requirements
- Perform preliminary analysis
- Perform systems analysis
- Create preliminary user views
- Create conceptual database design
- Normalize user views
- Produce conceptual design
- Implement the system
- Map conceptual design into physical design
- Code the design
- Produce user interface (forms, reports, etc.)
- Deliver a writeup and presentation
Course Prerequisites
MIS 171, MIS 322.
