Course Objectives
- At the core, this is a CONCEPTS course. Lectures,
class discussion, discussion question homework assignments, and book reading
will provide a foundation of the concepts discussed above in Course Overview.
- In addition to being a concepts course, a portion of this class is set aside
to be a SKILLS course.
Business students are expected
to have a basic level of business application skills. These basic
skills are required both in your remaining business courses as well as in the
workplace. To assure business students have these needed
skills, students will attend in-class tutorial lectures. Likewise,
they will complete assignments that are designed to “level-set” them
with skills in using spreadsheet and presentation software that will be needed
for Finance and other core business classes, as well as with basic database and
Web page development for upper division MIS coursework.
- In addition to needing basic skills, managers are expected to be able to
learn technology via directed reading. As such, students will be given time
during the semester to learn computer skills using TUTORIALS and will be evaluated
on their ability to learn from these tutorials.
