Course Overview
MgtOp 401 will examine some of the bases of individual behavior within organizations,
focus on strategies for becoming effective managers/leaders, discuss issues surrounding
small groups/teams, and study the structure and culture of complex organizations.
These areas of study are based upon the fields of sociology, psychology, and
social psychology, respectively.
The course objective is to help you become a more effective manager. To achieve
this objective, you need to lead others toward your goals and the organization's goals. To lead means to influence others to implement your plans. After all, it is not enough to know what is the correct action to take; you must also get others to follow your actions. Therefore, in this course, we will focus on influence skills, exclusively.
