Business Programs Majors
CORE REQUIREMENTS
Core courses are required for all undergraduate Business degrees and must be completed in addition to the courses specified by your Business Major. Some are also prerequsites for the courses listed below. Students are strongly encouraged to complete all required courses in a timely manner.

ACCOUNTING Major
This Major is designed to provide comprehensive exposure to accounting issues for students interested in professional accounting careers including Certified Public Accounting or Certified Managerial Accounting.

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION Major
The Business Administration Major builds on introductory courses to teach students how to apply critical concepts in Accounting, Finance, Management, and Marketing to solve business problems. Students earning the BA major are also encouraged to earn a Minor or certificate in their field of interest.

FINANCE Major
Students interested in working for financial institutions (including banks, insurance companies, savings and loans and credit unions) or in the investments field should consider the Finance Major. Finance deals with the raising, use, and investment of money or capital by individuals or businesses around the globe.

MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS Major
Management Information Systems (MIS) focuses on the application of technology including identifying information needs and change management associated with implementation of technology. This emphasis is quite different from Computer Science, which examines the efficiencies of the technology itself.

MANAGEMENT & OPERATIONS Major
The Management & Operations Major focuses on understanding how managers can improve organizational effectiveness by attending to the human side of the enterprise. Management & Operations deals with planning, structuring, and leading organizations; managing and being managed; relationship building across work groups and teams, and resolving conflict.

MARKETING Major
The study of Marketing involves the changing needs of commerce and promotion, and the creation of products and services designed to meet those needs. Marketing includes sales, advertising, promotion, retail management, marketing research, pricing, physical distribution, new product introduction, branding, international business, and e-commerce. The Marketing program at WSU Vancouver prepares students for a career in professional sales. Professional sales is the most common entry level position for marketing majors. Here at WSU Vancouver we provide an integrated program of study uniquely designed with courses in professional sales, sales management, negotiations, and business to business marketing.

ACCOUNTING Minor
The Accounting Minor is designed for students who are not considering Accounting as a career option, but want to improve their understanding of accounting activities.

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION Minor
(This minor is not available to students earning a BA in Business Administration.) The Business Administration Minor provides a basic foundation in business, and is an excellent choice for non-business students wishing to improve business acumen.

The Human Resource Personnel Minor provides managerial skills in leadership, compensation, benefits, training, and staffing organizations.

MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS Minor
Students interested in a career in the MIS field can pursue either an MIS Minor or eBusiness Certificate. The eBusiness Certificate focuses on database, server management, systems analysis, and eBusiness strategy, while the MIS Minor also includes additional computer programming experience.

MARKETING Minor
Students interested in a career in the Marketing field can pursue either a Marketing Minor or the Professional Sales Certificate. A Minor in Marketing provides students with skills that can be universally applied regardless of their industry or career choices. An integrated program of study uniquely designed with courses in professional sales, sales management, negotiations, and business to business marketing, prepares students to be successful in a wide range of careers.
