438 Advanced Cost Accounting and Management
Course Overview
Advanced Cost Accounting is designed for those intending to pursue careers in
cost management, public accounting, and/or small business ownership. It
builds introductory and intermediate cost accounting to practice implementation
of known concepts. The focus is on strategy, decision-making and integration
with all business functions in the organization. The topics will be familiar
but the focus will be different and designed to improve your strategic and analytic
thinking skills.

Course Objectives
When you successfully complete this course, you will have developed and/or enhanced the following skills:
- Develop an understanding of the knowledge and processes that drive the budgeting
function. This includes the creation, administration and social
budget functions.
a. Identify the chain of events leading to budget preparation
for a company.
b. Document how the budget is used and perceived by multiple organizational
members.
- Apply analytical techniques, appropriate and supported by managerial accounting principles and strategic thinking, to solve problems.
a. Perform regular case analyses.
b. Submit written analysis of the cases to be discussed.
- Display written communication skills.
a. Submit a formal written analysis of business
operations.
b. Provide recommendations for strategic action resulting from financial analysis.
