Washington State University's team, Nate Scholz and Ashley Wayman, placed first at the sales competition and won the Overall University Team Champions trophy. Nate Scholz won first place and took home the trophy for the Overall Championship. Ashley Wayman finished fifth overall (just narrowly missing out on the finals round of the sales competition, which sees the "final four" students square off against each other in a tournament style, much like the NCAA "March Madness" basketball trounament.)
WSU Vancouver students, Nate Scholz and Ashley Wayman, won the WSU Vancouver local "qualifying event" for the right to represent WSU at the NCSC in early December, 2006. They then worked closely with Dr. Chris Plouffe in the ensuing months refining their selling approach and skills as they prepared to travel to Kennesaw State University near Atlanta, Georgia, to compete against the 43 other universities and 86 other student contestants.
Students compete by making 20-minute simulated "sales calls" on sales and marketing professionals from industry, and are scored using a standardized template.
The national competition, now in its ninth year, tests students' selling skills in one-on-one sales presentation role-plays. It also provides opportunities for networking through a career fair that brings together students and business professionals.
The goal of the NCSC is to be a positive and educational experience for all participants. Corporate sponsors have the opportunity to observe, interact with and recruit the top undergraduate sales students in the country and the NCSC provides student participants a venue to compete with their peers from other schools as well as to demonstrate their sales skills to our corporate partners. In addition, the top sales professors from across the United States, Canada and Mexico have an opportunity to exchange ideas with their peers and the business community.
Some of the major corporate sponsors for the NCSC included Aramark, Liberty Mutual, Standard Register, Supplemental Health Care, Tom James Company, ADP, First Data, Sun Life Financial, UnumProvident, Cisco, Hewlett Packard, IBM.com, J&L Marketing, UPS and Dell, Inc.
We are pleased to recognize Aramark Corporation as a financial supporting partner for the WSU Vancouver Professional Sales Program.
