Effective Fall 2009, the Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures at Washington State University Vancouver offers a minor in Spanish. COURSE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SPANISH MINOR:
- To fulfill requirements for a minor in Spanish, a student must present a minimum of 16 hours of course work in one language area. Nine (9) of these credits must be outside the sequence SPAN 101 - 102 - 203 - 204 and must be taught in Spanish. A minimum of nine (9) credits with a letter grade must be taken in residency at WSU, three (3) of which must be at the 300-400 level.
- Completion of SPAN 101-102- 203 with a grade of C or better (or the equivalent in competence or advanced placement credit/test) is needed to progress into SPAN 204.
- Students who initially place into SPAN 102 and get a B or better in that course qualify for four (4) Departmental Advanced Placement (DAP) credits. Students placing initially into SPAN 203 or above and getting a B or better qualify for eight (8) DAP credits. A maximum of 8 DAP credits are granted. Initial placement into courses higher than SPAN 204 may also qualify for DAP credit; see instructor or department for more details.
- Courses counting towards a minor in the language may not also be counted towards a major in International Area Studies (i.e. Latin America Area Studies, German Area Studies, French and Francophone Area Studies, or Russian Area Studies).
- For courses taken in Study Abroad programs or as other transfer credits, please check with your advisor.
- No course in which a C- or lower grade is earned will be counted toward the minor.
- Upper-division courses taken Pass/Fail may not be included for credit toward the minor.
- No course may be repeated for credit toward the minor.
- No course may count for both the major and the minor.
- Credits for 105, 205, 305 or 405 may not be applied toward the minor.
