Young Artists Trevarthen and Keitel Show Work at WSU Vancouver

VANCOUVER, Wash. - Two young up and coming artists are displaying their artwork in the Engineering Life Sciences Building at Washington State University Vancouver from Aug. 11 - Sept. 18. In the first floor gallery are the paintings of Brooke Keitel; the duct tape artwork of Reid Trevarthen is in the second floor gallery.
Although these artists work is very different mediums and styles, both have a fresh approach to creating art.
Three years ago, Reid Trevarthen made his first duct tape artwork, a strap for his electric bass. He enjoyed working with duct tape and began to experiment and create lots of little works of art with it. After discovering that he could make realistic images using duct tape, Trevarthen began pushing the boundaries of what he thought duct tape could do and his pieces became larger. He now has a body of work that consists of large scale works of art made mostly out of duct tape. Trevarthen creates graphic portraits and images in bright colors.
Brooke Keitel's artwork is influenced by the Pacific Northwest landscape. Her abstract expressionist paintings are created with the Columbia River and the Willamette in mind. She says that her artwork "has a quality of liquid essence taken from the lush watery landscapes that encompass the bodies of water that surrounds my daily life." Keitel has studied art at the Pacific Northwest College of Art, and is a board member of the Mosaic Arts Alliance. She shows her work in local galleries and along the Pacific coast.
Entry to campus exhibits is free. WSU Vancouver galleries are open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. WSU Vancouver is located at 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave., east of the 134th Street exit from either I-5 or I-205, or via C-Tran bus service. Parking is available at parking meters or in the blue lot for $3 per day.
