WSU Vancouver English Students Take All at the Kenworthy Film Festival

Vancouver, Wash. - Pavithra Narayanan's English 342: Documentary Film Theory & Production class at Washington State University Vancouver swept every award category at the Kenworthy Film Festival held April 3 - 5 in Moscow, Idaho. WSU Vancouver competed with films from WSU Pullman and University of Idaho.
The winning films were all from English 342, which is an elective. Students from any discipline may take the class. These are not students in a film studies program and for 95 percent of the students, this class is their first exposure to film making.
Narayanan submitted the films because she felt it was an opportunity to gain a wider audience for the films. "The students, needless to say, are thrilled," said Narayanan about her students' reactions to sweeping the awards. "When I saw that my students won every single category, I was super thrilled. I am very, very happy for my students. It is a proud moment. As a teacher, for people to acknowledge, recognize, and appreciate the work that my students do, is the ultimate reward."
The categories and winners are:
Best Film: Art Crimes, Brandi Le; A Horse Story, Zakary Welch; Lost Echoes of Celilo Falls, Andrew Fletcher
Most Original: The Design Decline, Richard O'Brien, Brian Schlosser & Richard Yates; Art Crimes, Brandi Le
Funniest: “www.nothingischeap.com”, Stéphane Arlot; The Design Decline, Richard O'Brien, Brian Schlosser & Richard Yates
Audience Favorites:
Best Film (Tie): The Design Decline, Richard O'Brien, Brian Schlooser & Richard Yates
Most Original: Art Crimes, Brandi Le
Most Beautiful: Lost Echoes of Celilo Falls, Andrew Fletcher
Funniest (tie): The Design Decline, Richard O'Brien, Brian Schlosser & Richard Yates
Fletcher, O'Brien, Schlosser and Yates are from Vancouver, Wash., Le is from Portland, Ore., and Arlot is from France.
