WSU Research Assistant Excellence Award Goes to Vancouver Student

Vancouver, Wash. - The Graduate and Professional Student Association (GPSA), awarded Washington State University Vancouver Research Assistant, Niel Hayes, the Research Assistant Excellence Award for his work on Global Warming. This is the first time a Vancouver student has received this award.
Hayes' project is an eco-conscience refrigeration project studying an environmentally friendly refrigerant (Co2) in high-pressure 'mini-channeled brazed plate heat exchangers. Hayes' faculty advisor, Amir Jokar, nominated Hayes for this award for his dedication, professionalism and consistent level of research caliber that represents the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) program.
"This award is a great honor and hopefully will pique the interest of future grad students to further research around finding solutions that make the world a cleaner and healthier place to live, regardless of their field of study," said Hayes. "We all have a part to contribute and research projects like this at WSU Vancouver allow students to truly make a difference."
Hayes graduated with a Master's of Science in Mechanical Engineering this May and will receive a certificate and award stipend of $200 from the GPSA in honor of his exemplary work. Hayes has also been awarded the grad student ASHRAE Grant In-Aid award for this project.
Hayes grew up in Colorado and received his Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Brigham Young University-Provo then came to Vancouver to work with Jokar on the ASHRAE project.
