VANCOUVER, Wash. - Two local photographers, Patty Finch and Rebecca Jensen, are exhibiting their work publicly for the first time at Washington State University Vancouver. Their photography is currently on display in the Engineering Life Science building through September 10.
Merlinda Sain, human resource generalist for WSU Vancouver, organized this exhibit with the intention of creating an opportunity for emerging artists. Sain looked for artists with no professional experience but with a talent for photography.
Finch only recently discovered she has a talent and a passion for photography. She plans to expand her expertise by participating in workshops and taking classes. Finch is a single mother who often uses her children as the subject of her artwork. She also likes to capture images of nature, landscapes and architecture. Most of the work Finch is displaying at WSU Vancouver is black and white, her favorite medium. The few color pieces she has are subtle and without bright colors. They have a similar tone as her black-and-white images.
Rebecca Jensen is a Running Start student at the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics and a photography intern in the Office of Marketing and Communications at WSU Vancouver. She is exhibiting a series of black-and-white photos that layer multiple images. Jensen creates her pieces in the darkroom, not using digital manipulation. She enjoys the hands-on work it takes to craft her prints.
WSU Vancouver art galleries are open from 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Friday. Admission is free. Parking is available at parking meters or in the Blue Daily Pay lot for $3.
