VANCOUVER, Wash. - The art of Andrew Morrison will be on display Aug. 11 - Sept. 18 at Washington State University Vancouver Administration Building gallery.
Andrew Morrison creates art work drawing from a number of sources for inspiration. His work is influenced by his Native American culture and heritage, as well as by hip-hop and street art. His work juxtaposes classically rendered figures and images of Native Americans in traditional dress with images from popular culture and graffiti tags. The result is a body of work that is hip, exciting and very unique.
Morrison's work represents his personal experiences - music, urban landscapes, friends and family. He creates art by layering different styles and techniques with diverse cultural references.
"My artistic creations connect with all tribes, genders, ages, religions, and races," said Morrison. "My art takes a stand against racism, violence, hate and substance abuse. My art celebrates love, life and wellness. My art brings together the past, present and future. I am a historian documenting the times we are living in."
Morrison's education includes the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design and Museum School of Fine Art in Boston. He has shown his artwork in galleries and at events through the Northwest and is involved in teaching art.
