CONTACT:

Vancouver, Wash. - Kweisi Mfume will take the podium at Washington State University Vancouver's fifth Annual Public Affairs Lecture Series. Mfume will touch on some of today's most pressing topics in his address, "Race, Class and Economic Recovery in Obama's America."

The lecture will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15 at Fort Vancouver High School Auditorium. The public is invited to attend.

From activist to US Congressman to head of the NAACP, it was with bold steps and fierce determination that Mfume has become one of America's most provocative public intellectuals. On his journey through politics and business, Mfume has been a Baltimore city councilman, a five-term U.S. congressman and chief executive officer of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). While in congress, Mfume advocated for landmark business and civil rights legislation, including the American's with Disabilities Act and the Civil Rights Bill of 1991. Most recently, Mfume served as national surrogate speaker for the "Obama for America" presidential campaign.
