Gay Men Speak to Students About Discrimination

CONTACT:

Joe Bertolino and Bil Leipold will speak at Washington State University Vancouver about the realities of living in a world of heterosexual privilege, 6 p.m. Nov. 6, in the Administration Building, room 110.

In a talk called, "When the Gays Move in to Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood," the pair will draw on personal experiences as gay fraternity men and student affairs professionals, as well as highlight the reactions of families and friends.

"Homophobia and heterosexual privilege are topics that are both timely and important as our campus strives to be a more inclusive, safe and friendly place for students, faculty and staff of all sexual orientations and gender identities," said Bola Majekobaje, WSU Vancouver assistant director for student diversity.

"I'm really pleased to see Bil and Joe coming to campus," said WSU Vancouver junior Jes Dimas, interim president of Queer Cougars and Allies, a student club. "By hosting this lecture, the school is demonstrating their continued commitment of fostering diversity on campus."
