Gallery at WSU Vancouver Features Quilts from Ann Johnston

Vancouver, Wash. - Ann Johnston's unique quilts are on display in the Washington State University Vancouver Administration building gallery now through Nov. 28.
Johnson has been making quilts and putting dye on fabric for over 25 years. Her years of experimentation have led to mountains of hand dyed fabric and quilts, thousands of miles of travel, numerous exhibitions and articles, four books, and not a few aches and pains. She earned degrees in literature and geography, married, had two sons, and taught school in several countries.
Johnson will present her "Line Vs. Shape" lecture to the public on the WSU Vancouver campus at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 17 in the Administration Building, room 130. This free lecture will use her quilts to illustrate the basic concepts of design and the tools used to achieve them. Her premise is that being aware of the characteristics of line and shape for example will enable the quilter to view how decisions affect the final design. A series of quilts called, "It's a Balancing Act" gives viewers an idea of how she has explored line and shape while pursuing the mystery of how balance is achieved or lost. Entry to the exhibit is free. WSU Vancouver galleries are open weekdays, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.
Daily parking is available at parking meters or in the blue lot for $3.
