      <content type="html"><![CDATA[<p>Contact:<br /></p><ul><li>Erin Dengerink Madarang, Campus Gallery Director, 360-546-9551, dengerie@vancouver.wsu.edu</li><li>Sheri Byrd, Office of Marketing and Communications, 360-546-9602, byrds@vancouver.wsu.edu</li></ul> <p>VANCOUVER, Wash. - The newest art display in the Washington State University Vancouver library gallery is a group of oil paintings by Leslie Cote.&nbsp;</p> <p>Cote is a local artist who has shown in the Aurora Gallery, the Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center, and the YWCA.&nbsp; In her current body of work she explores her ancestral heritage with images of people in Africa.&nbsp;The show runs until July 11. </p> <p>Cote uses a soft color pallet.&nbsp; In a number of pieces she pairs a cool yellow with a pale blue.&nbsp;The colors create a calm, soothing feel to images of people busy shopping, dancing, working and making music. Six of the paintings in the exhibition are small in scale. Tami Galland, 43, and her son Loy J. Each year, one undergraduate student as well as two faculty members receive a special mention during the ceremony.</p> <p>The Chancellor&#39;s Award for Student Achievement will go to David Neuhauser, 44. Despite great personal difficulty in recent years, Neuhauser is receiving his Bachelor of Arts in human development, with a 3.87 GPA. &quot;The human development faculty and staff supported me through so much, even when they didn&#39;t know it,&quot; he said. &quot;The professors were always so approachable - they were like friends as well as teachers.&quot;</p><p>Selected by the students of WSU Vancouver, the 2008 Student&#39;s Award for Teaching Excellence goes to Marcelo Diversi, assistant professor of human development. This nineteenth class from WSU Vancouver includes 585 undergraduates and 126 graduate students. The guest speaker will be Washington State Gov. Chris Gregoire.&nbsp; <p>The ceremony is expected to last approximately 90 to 120 minutes in the outdoor setting of the Amphitheater. Tickets are not required. Rehearsal is planned for 3 p.m., May 9, also at the Amphitheater at Clark County. Parking is free for rehearsal and commencement. He is a resident of Ridgefield, Wash., where he has lived since 1999. He has also worked as a senior executive in Accenture&#39;s Financial Services Practice, and as a senior technology strategist for banking at Microsoft Corporation. This exhibit addresses the problem of abstraction, which places the emphasis on visual fundamentals such as shape, color, texture, line, volume and the logic of composition. In the following assignment, students had free reign in both subject matter and technique. The prints will be exchanged in the gallery as the students create new work. The instructor of the class is Harrison Higgs, assistant professor of Fine Arts. Schools will compete in the pre-built trebuchet competition and a math olympiad.       <content type="html"><![CDATA[<p> CONTACT:</p><ul><li>Jennifer Crooks, Office of Development and Alumni Relations, 360/546-9604, crooks@vancouver.wsu.edu</li><li>Nancy Hales, Tod and Maxine McClaskey Family Foundation, 360/904-8349, nancyhales@msn.com <br /></li><li>Sheri Byrd, Office of Marketing and Communications, 360/546-9602, byrds@vancouver.wsu.edu </li></ul> <p>VANCOUVER, Wash. - Washington State University Vancouver&#39;s Child Development Program will be expanding in to a private, full-day kindergarten, thanks to a $1.5 million dollar donation from the Tod and Maxine McClaskey Family Foundation.</p> <p>This is the foundation&#39;s initial gift, and the largest cash gift to date for WSU Vancouver.</p> <p>The funding will be used for a variety of start-up costs, from nearly $1 million in interior and exterior construction, to curriculum development, and to staff salaries. Under current plans, the new kindergarten would open doors to students in the fall of 2010.
