WSU Vancouver Invites You to Help Make Jan. 18 a "Day On"

Washington State University Vancouver is hosting a Day of Service to recognize Martin Luther King Jr. on Jan. 18. The day will begin with a short, inspirational program including the words of Thabiti Lewis, Ph.D., professor of English at 9 a.m. at the Firstenburg Student Commons. WSU Vancouver Explores the Place Where New Technology Preserves History

Washington State University Vancouver is helping to bring 21st century technology to the 19th century Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. Brett Oppegaard, a professor in WSU Vancouver’s Digital Technology and Culture program, has recently been awarded a $9,000 grant from the Historical Promotion Grants Program to produce multimedia content for mobile technology for the national park.

Washington State University Vancouver is inviting businesses in Southwest Washington and Portland, Ore. to participate in its 2010 Career & Internship Fair. The event offers employers and students an opportunity to get to know one another. The Career & Internship Fair takes place February 23 - 25 from 3 - 5:30 p.m. in the Firstenburg Student Commons. Learn How Financial Aid can Help Pay for College

Washington State University Vancouver will host Financial Aid 101 on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 6 p.m. in the Administration building, room 110. Financial Aid 101 is designed to be useful to everyone interested in learning how financial aid can help pay for college, regardless of which college or university a student plans to attend. The course will cover what financial aid is, how to apply for it and how to access the money once it is awarded. The event is free to the public and free parking will be available in Orange 1 lot.
Movie Uncovers the Challenges Faced by Undocumented Young People in the U.S.

Washington State University Vancouver will host a screening of “Papers: the Movie” by Graham Street Productions, a Portland-based film company, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. in the Administration building, room 110. Admittance is free and the event is open to the public. The United States is home to approximately two million undocumented children born outside the U.S., but raised in this country. “Papers: the Movie”, uncovers the challenges these children face as they turn 18 without legal status.
At Home At School Program Becomes Collaborative Site of the International Institute of Qualitative Inquiry

The At Home At School Program (AHAS), founded by Susan Finley, Washington State University Vancouver professor of education, has been accepted as a collaborative site of the International Institute of Qualitative Inquiry (IIQI.) The IIQI is a multidisciplinary institute housed at the University of Illinois that works with collaborative sites to build a community where members from a wide variety of academic disciplines can discuss, research and work together to provide leadership and be advocates of social justice.
Photographer Linda Butler Chronicles the Construction of China's Three Gorges Dam

Photographer Linda Butler will present “A Photographer’s Eight Journeys to China’s Yangtze River” on Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. at Washington State University Vancouver in the Undergraduate Classroom building, room 1. Her presentation chronicles the eight trips she made to China between 2000 and 2003 to capture the construction of the Three Gorges Dam, the largest hydroelectric dam in the world. Butler’s lecture is accompanied by a photo exhibit that is available for viewing now through Dec. 11 in the Administration building gallery.

Tribute to Poet, Richard Brautigan, Anchors Free Evening of Performance and Art

Students from the Digital Technology and Culture program at Washington State University Vancouver are putting on an evening of interactive poetry performance and digital art on Friday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. in the Administration building, room 110. The project is a tribute to late poet, Richard Brautigan, and his library of unpublished manuscripts and books. The public is invited to attend, and admission is free.
Pulitzer Prize-Winning Author, Jared Diamond, to Speak at WSU Vancouver

Washington State University Vancouver will host Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Jared Diamond, Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. in the Administration building, room 110. Diamond will discuss, “Treatment of Older People by Traditional Societies: Lessons and Warnings for Us Today.” Diamond’s presentation is open to the public and admission is free. Parking is available at parking meters or in the Blue Daily Pay lot for $3.
