WSU Researcher Discusses Climate Change, Causes, Difficulties Facing Policy Makers

Washington State University Vancouver presents the third in the Chancellor’s Seminar Series’s spring season, entitled “Climate Change: Fact or Fiction?” This campus lunchtime presentation takes place noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 16, in the Firstenburg Student Commons.

"Visionary Landscapes: The Electronic Literature Organization 2008 Conference,” will be held May 29 - June 1 at the downtown Hilton Vancouver Washington, at Clark College, at WSU Vancouver (bus transportation provided), and at the downtown North Bank Artists Gallery, 1005 Main St. More than 120 digital media artists and critics from around the world will participate in the event.
Local Painter Leslie Cote Displays Work in Library

The newest art display in the Washington State University Vancouver library gallery is a group of oil paintings by Leslie Cote. Cote is a local artist who has shown in the Aurora Gallery, the Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center, and the YWCA. In her current body of work she explores her ancestral heritage with images of people in Africa. The show runs until July 11.

Homeless Women's Group Shares Stories, Poetry and Activism

Representatives from the Women’s Housing Equality and Enhancement League, will speak at Washington State University Vancouver, 12 to 1:15 p.m., April 17 in the Library building, room 201. The WHEEL women, all homeless or formerly homeless, will discuss and read from their recently published poetry anthology, “Beloved Community,” which represents the first national effort to feature the writings of unhoused women.
University Singers Bring Songs from the Theater to Spring Concert

The University Singers of Washington State University Vancouver, under the direction of Lee Jennings, will perform a spring concert from 12:10 - 1 p.m., April 16 in the Administration Building, room 110. This event is free and open to the public. Parking is available in metered spaces or in the Blue Lot for $3 per day.
Michael Munk Speaks About Portland's Heritage of Social Dissent

Michael Munk, author of “The Portland Red Guide,” will speak at Washington State University Vancouver April 1 about the city of Portland’s heritage of social dissent. Using maps and numerous photos, Munk tells the stories of people and organizations that fought against repression and injustice, showing the sites of their activities left out of local placenames, memorials and monuments. The event takes place 12 to 1 p.m. in the WSU Vancouver Library, room 201, and is free and open to the public.
David Rovics Sings, Shows Role of Music in American Social Movements

Singer and songwriter David Rovics will perform at Washington State University Vancouver, 12 to 1 p.m. April 3 in the Multimedia Classroom building, room 6. Called the Pete Seeger of his time, Rovics will sing and discuss songs that have played a central role in various American social movements, such as labor, civil, human, and women’s rights struggles. The presentation is free and open to the public.

The professional performance group Step Afrika! brings their act to Washington State University Vancouver at 6 p.m. April 16 in the Firstenburg Student Commons.

Students Offer Perspectives on Cars in "Visions of the Road"

Students at Washington State University Vancouver will give a presentation of readings and images about the road and automobiles in American society. “Visions of the Road” takes place 4 to 6 p.m. April 15 in the Firstenburg Student Commons. Donations of canned food will be accepted for local food banks, and refreshments will be served. The event is the last of the “Literacies for a Changing World” series at WSU Vancouver.
