Spaces Still Available in WSU Vancouver Youth, Adult Summer Classes

Approximately 20 openings remain for middle school and high school youth at the summer Preparation and Career Exploration, PaCE, Academy Aug. 4 -8 at Washington State University Vancouver.Spaces are also still open for the no-cost sessions for teachers and adult learners to be held concurrently with the PaCE Academy, Aug. 4 - 7 from 1 - 2:30 p.m.

WSU Vancouver Teams With Ft. Vancouver TV for Student Video Training

The Digital Technology and Culture program at Washington State University Vancouver and Fort Vancouver Community Television non-profit community public access television on cable channel 11, have formed a partnership aimed at training future leaders of community media and expanding the presence of community television in Clark County. FVTV will provide professional internship opportunities to students in the DTC program, work with DTC faculty in training students in video production and help students gain project management experience in digital media.

Experts to present findings from Vancouver Lake research

Findings from a one-year study of plankton in Vancouver Lake will be announced at the Vancouver Lake Watershed Partnership’s open public meeting Wednesday, July 16 at the Port of Vancouver administrative office Commission Room.The meeting is scheduled for 4-6 p.m., in the Commission Room at the port’s administrative building.

Construction Closes Some Campus Paths Until Aug. 8

The Undergraduate Classroom construction project will require significant modification to the pathways and hillside on the south and east of the project. To achieve completion of this modification prior to Fall Semester the pathways from the Annex, Salmon Creek, Loop Road bridge, and near the “Women Who Weld” art structure will be closed without access to campus from July 7 through August 8, 2008. The construction company will place closure signs on the pathways indicating “PATHWAY CLOSED DUE TO CONSTRUCTION, NO CAMPUS ACCESS”.

Middle and High School Students Invited to Fun Summer Academy at WSU Vancouver

WSU Regents Approve Capital, Operating Budget Requests

The Board of Regents of Washington State University approved the university’s capital and operating budget requests, which will be considered by the State Legislature in the 2009 session, at the board’s regular meeting Friday in Pullman. Leading the list of capital requests are $38.6 million for construction of the Applied Technology Classroom Building at WSU Vancouver, $7.4 million in design funding for a veterinary medical research building in Pullman, $15.75 million for a Pullman wastewater reclamation project and $16.1 million to turn the Bookie building in Pullman into classroom space. The Bookie will vacate its current building and move to the renovated Compton Union Building, which will open this fall.

"No Child Left Inside" Receives State Parks Grant for Youth Outdoor Education

The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission announces the first awarding of grants to 25 organizations and agencies around Washington as part of the No Child Left Inside program, created to get kids connected with nature…
This will be accomplished through a partnership with Susan Finley, an education professor at Washington State University Vancouver, where she heads the master’s in teaching program and oversees the At Home At School Program.

Mother, Son Graduating Together as Mechanical Engineers

When the students and faculty of Washington State University Vancouver gather for commencement this year on May 10 at 1 p.m., many proud parents will fill The Amphitheater at Clark County to watch their children graduate.

However, on this day before Mother’s Day, one mother will be cheering her son from the students’ seating, and he will cheer her as well. Tami Galland, 43, and her son Loy J. Dockery, III, 21, are both receiving their bachelor of science in mechanical engineering degree.
