Washington State University began offering courses in Southwest Washington in 1983 as part of the Southwest Washington Joint Center for Education. In 1989, WSU Vancouver was formally established within the state's land-grant institution. The Salmon Creek campus opened in 1996 and offers lower division, upper division and graduate-level courses.

Mission
Key to WSU Vancouver's mission of teaching, research and service is providing access to a world-class education in partnership with the communities we serve.

Location and Facilities
WSU Vancouver's 351-acre campus, located ten miles north of the Columbia River, is comprised of nine buildings, as well as bicycle and pedestrian trails, an outdoor amphitheater, a magnificent fountain, dedicated sculptures, a 200-seat lecture hall, art galleries, a fitness center, outdoor sport court, coffee bar and cafeteria.
Campus Resources
WSU Vancouver's library has more than 800 journals in
hardcopy; over 9,000 fulltext online journals
and newspapers;
a core collection of more than 20,000 books; access
to more than 100 major bibliographic databases; and
knowledgable research support. The library participates in
several local and regional library consortia, including the
Portland Area Library System and ORBIS/Cascade (the
Oregon and Washington Cooperative Library Project). It also
houses the Environmental Information Cooperative
Library.
Ten laboratories include student computer stations, fine arts, circuits and microprocessing, computer-aided drafting, group instruction, two teaching labs, two open student labs and a writing center. Videoconference Services allows WSU Vancouver to send and receive classes and meetings throughout the WSU system, as well as across the state at other locations.

Co-Admission Program with Local Community Colleges
WSU Vancouver has a co-admission program with Clark College and Lower Columbia College for students who intend to start their studies at the community college and transfer to WSU Vancouver their junior year. Applicants to the program may be granted co-admission to WSU Vancouver as early as the start of their freshman year if they meet all requirements.
