March is Women's History Month

“Women taking the lead to save our planet” is the theme for 2009.

See the honorees at the National Women’s History Project and explore their activities.

Check out the photographs and articles available at the Library of Congress.

The National Endowment for the Humanities includes travelogues and articles about suffrage and literature.

Interested in the real Rosie the Riveter? See the places and faces at the National Park Service celebration of Women’s History Month.

While the campaign is underway to raise interest and funding for a National Women’s History Museum, check out the CyberExhibits.

Search the special collection of Women’s History and find out about influential women in American history in the American National Biography including the first woman US Treasurer, Georgia Neese Clark.

Explore events from 1954-1968 at the Civil Rights Digital Library

This digital archive provides access to primary source including news film and television archives.

Browse events by year; 1954 features Brown vs. Board of Education and provides a brief description of this historic case as well as links to archival collections and reference resources including the Library of Congress, Georgia Public Broadcasting and the Dwight D. Eisenhower Library.

Explore the African American Experience.

Highlights
The key forecasts of IBISWorld’s Macroeconomic Briefing Paper are:

  • The US economy will decline by 1.6% in 2009 and will not return to its normal course until 2011.
  • Unemployment will continue to rise into the first quarter of 2010 and peak at 8.9%.
  • Retail sales will fall by 2.2% in 2009, with greater most pressure in the first half of the year.
  • Business investment will stay negative until the second half of 2010.
  • Residential investment and housing starts will not return to 2008 levels until 2011.

Election day is here. It is time to decide what candidates and ballot measures have earned your vote.

Are you ready to vote? Clark County conducts all elections by mail. To have your ballot counted, you must drop it off at an official site before 8 PM today. See our map of Clark County ballot drop off locations and choose the location nearest you.

Remember, friends don’t let friends skip elections. Turn in your ballot and encourage your friends to do the same.

Debate 11/7

On Wednesday, Nov 7th the campus student debate team will be presenting a debate on “Has the automobile ravaged our nation? can we return to a world of human mobility?“  Inspired by this year’s New Student Reading Project, Asphalt Nation, by Jane Holz Kay, the debate is sponsored by the WSU Vancouver General Education program. Team members are Joseph Ficken and Tia Ostergren for the government team, Anna Patterson and Bryce Smith for the opposing team.
