What is Kappa Omicron Nu?
Kappa Omicron Nu (KON) is the National Honor Society for students and professionals in Family and Consumer Sciences, which includes Human Development, committed to recognizing and encouraging individuals seeking a lifelong commitment to an exceptional standard of ethics and scholarship. Students at Washington State University Vancouver majoring in Human Development are deemed eligible for membership and then nominated by departmental faculty based on scholastic achievement, leadership potential, and future professional promise.
What is an Honor Society?
The Greek letters are used to designate honor societies in many colleges and universities. University honor societies are not social clubs or political organizations, nor is membership in them a path to instant success. Honor society members -- recognized upon graduation with honor cords and/or medallions -- are people with similar interests and high achievements who are eager to advance scholarship, ethics, and professionalism in their academic disciplines.
Why Should I Join?
Joining Kappa Omicron Nu means becoming a member of a national honor society that can offer numerous benefits including:
- enhancement of the individuals' academic record, providing recognition and increasing marketability;
- increased opportunities of the student for financial benefits and scholarships;
- complementing and extending the educational program of the institution;
- continuous membership; access to all KON functions, both national and local; recognition of membership;
