Program Goals
The details of the general education curriculum and course schedules for the General Education program at WSU Vancouver are under construction. Their development is guided by certain principles and goals:
- Be student centered to assure student success and retention. Include Student Services and student involvement directly with learning communities (e.g. advising, academic support, mentoring);
- Employ aspects of learning communities to help shape student educational experience;
- Emphasize active rather than passive learning;
- Foster engaged experience to include a clear connection between the academic experience and real world concerns;
- Offer some portion of general education in settings beyond traditional classrooms;
- Integrate themes that link courses and foster interdisciplinary design among some courses; and
- Be outcome driven and embed assessment in the process of transformation.
