  Bilingual/ESL Teacher Advancement Program

A cooperative program between Washington State University Vancouver, Clark College, Lower Columbia College, five school districts: Battleground, Evergreen, Kelso, Longview and Vancouver, and the Educational Service District 112

Funding provided the U.S. Department of Education, Title VII Programs

The Bilingual/ESL Teacher Advancement Program is designed to address a critical shortage of bilingual/ESL education teachers in the Southwest Washington area. It has been created to recruit, train and support bilingual paraprofessionals and secondary students so that they can become certified in K-8 education, with endorsements in Bilingual and/or ESL education. Financial support is currently available for two educational pathways: the Undergraduate Program (a joint community college/WSU Vancouver program) and the Master in Teaching Program at WSU Vancouver.

General Eligibility. Applicants must be legal residents of the state of Washington and meet the following criteria:

Do not hold or have not held a teaching certificate
Are or have been working in bilingual or ESL settings, preferably in one of five
  participating school districts: Battle Ground, Evergreen, Kelso, Longview and Vancouver
Demonstrate commitment to the education of language minority students
Demonstrate a need for financial assistance
Are bilingual or bicultural and/or have experience in bilingual or multicultural
  settings.
