Analysis: Canonical correlation
Problem: data were collected on the abundance of live stages of the reef fish Zebrasoma flavescens over a three year period in new marine protected areas (FRA) sites before and after the FRA's were closed to aquarium collectors. The following variables were examined:
totalarea: total area of the FRA (h)
reefwidth : width of the FRA (km)
reefarea: area of the reef (h)
fingercoral: mean percent cover of finger coral Porites compressa
recruits: total number of Zebrasoma flavescens recruits
juvs: total number of Zebrasoma flavescens juveniles
adults: total number of Zebrasoma flavescens adults
densitychange: absolute change in density of Zebrasoma before vs. after reserve closure as of 2002
