COURSE LEARNING SURVEY

WELCOME

Welcome to the PSYCHOLOGY 309 and 311: COURSE LEARNING SURVEY. I thank you for your help and hope that you will find this survey interesting. The purpose of this survey is to assess learning outcomes in the diversity course over the semester. This is a new course that has been developed within the last year to fulfill the new [D] GER requirement. This survey is my way of determining the extent to which I am successfully teaching you the course material.

Washington State University and the Department of Psychology support the practice of protection of the rights of research participants. Therefore, I would like to allow you to make an informed consent as to whether you would like to participate in this survey.

The information in this consent form is provided so that you can decide whether or not you wish to participate in this survey. Your participation is considered voluntary. Even if you agree to participate, you are free to withdraw from the survey at any time; simply exit from the Web. In order to receive your project points, notify me of your desire for an alternative assignment before the first survey completion deadline.

Survey Content
The survey contains a number of scales and items. It begins by asking you for some demographic information (e.g., age, gender, marital status, etc.). Then, it progresses to asking questions about your attitudes towards diversity and various minority groups. It should take you about 15 minutes to complete.

Your Privacy
In the beginning of the survey, you will be asked to provide a 5-digit code so that your responses today can be matched to your responses later in the semester. This 5-digit number can be any number you choose (but, please do NOT use any part of your WSU ID#). Make sure you remember this number, because you will need to enter this SAME number when you complete the survey in December.

It is important for you to understand that there are NO right or wrong answers to the survey questions. I just want your most honest answers. In addition, please understand that your answers are completely ANONYMOUS. Because you are choosing your own 5-digit number, I have no way of matching that number to your name. In addition, because your responses are being sent online and NOT via e-mail, I will not receive an e-mail address or other identifying information.

More importantly, I am not as interested in how ONE student responds to the survey as I am interested in how the entire CLASS responds. In addition, as noted in your syllabus, your grade for this portion of the class depends solely on completing the survey, not on the specific answers you provide. Therefore, please give your most honest answers.

It will probably take you about 15 minutes to complete this survey. You may discontinue participation at any time. Your name will not appear in association with the data that you provide; individual data will never be presented from this study. Your data will remain strictly confidential and anonymous.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this project, you can contact the instructor, Dr. Tahira Probst, probst@vancouver.wsu.edu, (360) 546-9746.

Thank you for your participation.

Sincerely,

Tahira Probst, Ph.D.
