Vita

Background:

Dr. Latham joined the faculty of Washington State University in the Fall of 1994 upon receiving her doctorate in accounting from Georgia State University. Her teaching interests are financial accounting, auditing and accounting information systems. She received her B.S. from Rutgers University (1975) and M.B.A. from the University of Portland (1981) and has been a member of the accounting faculty of Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia State University and Portland State University. Prior to her academic career, she worked in public accounting as an auditor for PriceWaterhouse Coopers and specialized in financial institutions, governmental entities and construction accounting.

Research:

 

  • Information quality (or lack of) with particular emphasis on internal control and monitoring mechanisms as well as analyses which enhance decision usefulness. Current emphasis is on transaction analysis of interactions between physicians practices and insurance companies.
  • Managing the stakeholder resource mix.
  • Corporate illegal activity with specific focus on agency relationships in securities fraud violations.
  • The interdisciplinary nature of accounting: New Accounting Scholars' Publications in Non-Accounting Journals" with Anne Christensen and Cathy Finger. See link to list of academic journals included in the study.

Decision-usefulness tools and approaches derived from this research are also examined from a pedagogical perspective
