Dave Kim received
his B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Design from Sungkyunkwan University
in Korea (completed August 1998). He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical
Engineering at the University of Washington, Seattle in 2002.
He joined the School of Engineering and Computer Science at
Washington State University Vancouver in August 2003 as an Assistant
Professor.
Professor Kim
has developed and taught undergraduate courses in materials, mechanics,
and manufacturing. These have included courses in manufacturing
processes, Computer-Aided Manufacturing, manufacturing design
lab, and manufacturing quality control.
Dr. Kim's research
has been in the areas of traditional and non-traditional manufacturing
processes of engineering materials and their performances. In
particular, he invloved in research concerned with the machining
of composite materials (polymer composites and hybrid composites).
He has been the author or co-author of over 20 technical papers
and proceedings in this area. Currently, with the support of Society
of Manufacturing Engineers, Dr. Kim’s research efforts have
also included the fatigue behavior of manufactured products, with
the focus of fatigue strength improvement of spot welds. Dr. Kim
has also involved in micro fabrication research with the emphasis
of micro electric discharge machining. Dr. Kim serves as the WSU
Vancouver Student Chapter Faculty Adviser and the board member
of Portland Senior Chapter at Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
Also, he is an active member of American Society of Mechanical
Engineers and American Society of Engineering Education.
