Response Papers

The response paper is a short (1-2 page) response to the assigned readings.Response papers should summarize the argument of the essay in the main paragraph and then critically enagaged/evaluated some aspect of the argument. These may be as creative as you have energy for... that is, feel free to play loose with the term "critical." Response papers are to be posted on the class listserve by noon the day of class.

Presentations

You will be responsible for selecting a text (article or part of a book) to present. Presentations will include a summary of the argument and your own critique of the work. In addition, you will lead discussion on this text.

Essays

You have a choice here. Your writing requirements can be fulfilled by either two ten page papers, one at mid-term, one during finals week, or by an article length (17 - 20 pages) essay at the end of the course.
Essays will be critical arguments that present your own theorizing in relation to the works we have discussed.

OR, you can do a hypertextual, web-based argument that is the equivalent of the pages required in the hard-copy papers.
