STUDY TITLE : Online Expressive Writing Intervention Following a Trauma or a Major Stressor

TIME 1 PARTICIPANT: After reading the Introduction and Brief Description, and choosing to participate, PLEASE proceed to the CONSENT FORM. Upon consenting, you will be prompted to create a unique subject identifier, in addition to further instructions to questionnaires and writing assignments. Please try to leave enough time that you can complete the assessments in one sitting. If for any reason you are interrupted, refer to the links below under the "Returning Participant" heading.

WRITING ASSIGMENT SESSIONS PARTICIPANT: You have completed TIME 1, and have received your writing assignment code number via email, go the EXPRESSIVE WRITING ASSIGNMENT CODE PAGE.

TIME 2 PARTICIPANT: You have completed TIME 1 and all four (4) WRITING ASSIGNMENTS and you are ready to take the assessments a second time: Please go to the PSS PAGE. When you have completed the ASI QUESTIONNAIRE, you are finished and you DO NOT need to request another access code or complete the writing sessions again. Thank you for your participation.

RETURNING PARTICIPANT for either QUESTIONNAIRE SESSION TIME 1 or TIME 2: You have completed the Consent process AND created a Subject Identification number, but you were unable to allot the time required to completed the series of questionnaires. INTRODUCTION AND BRIEF DESCRIPTION : This online study is being conducted by John Garofalo, Assistant Professor of Psychology, at Washington State University Vancouver . This research study proposes to evaluate how effective a writing intervention is at reducing distress. The Department of Psychology and the Washington State University Institutional Review Board have given its approval to conduct this study. You have been asked to participate in this research study because you have recently experienced a major stressor and/or trauma in your life and you are at least 18 years old. The study will investigate how the experience of a major stressor and/or trauma affects individuals and will evaluate the potential benefits of a writing intervention. Specifically, this study will evaluate how well different writing interventions may reduce the distress one experiences following a trauma.
