Undergraduate Admission Steps
While students are welcome to meet with the ENCS Academic Coordinator at any time to discuss the CS and ME programs, even before planning on attending WSU Vancouver, admission to our programs can be completed in these easy steps: (Note: This information is for undergraduate students only. Graduate student admission steps are listed on http://www.vancouver.wsu.edu/encs/HowToApply.htm.)
-
Apply for admission. The admission process includes a variety of different categories. An admission application can be completed through the Web or printed and sent in through the mail.
Students with fewer than 27 transferable semester college credits or who just graduated from high school must meet the freshmen admission requirements. The freshmen admission steps tells you more information on the admission process. These students would need to complete the freshmen application
Students with more than 27 transferable semester college credits after graduating from high school must meet the transfer student admission requirements and follow the steps listed.
- Contact the ENCS Academic Coordinator for an advising appointment. Students with prior college credit must bring a copy of their transcript, an unofficial copy is okay, to the advising appointment. The advising appointment may include: information on how to apply for admission, an evaluation of all prior classes with explanation of how they apply to the requirements of the ENCS programs, assistance with obtaining course descriptions from their previous college for evaluation purposes, a list of classes that may be taken at a community college, community college class equivalency information, steps on how to register for classes, and a recommendation of classes to take the first semester at WSU Vancouver.
After the advising appointment, students will know which level of the program they may enter. Because the computer science and engineering programs are so structured and specific, even students with prior college credit and prior college degrees may need to begin with some of the lower-division courses to meet the prerequisites for the programs.
- Complete the admission process. Follow up on the admission process, completing all steps as outlined. Make sure your latest transcript is sent directly from the college(s) attended. If further classes will be taken, a new transcript must be sent at the end of each semester or quarter completed. Once the evaluation process is completed through Admissions, students will receive an offer letter if they qualify for admission. The offer letter requires a pre-tuition payment before the student can be admitted. Once the pre-tuition payment is paid, the student will be admitted.
- Register for classes. When a student has been admitted, an advising hold is placed on the system. If the student has already been advised by the ENCS Academic Coordinator, the Coordinator can release the hold. To register for classes, student go to myWSU, create a Network ID on the first visit, and follow the directions to register for the recommended courses.
- Change of plans. If a student changes their plans and no longer wishes to attend WSU Vancouver after beginning the application process, please contact the ENCS Academic Coordinator so the student's information can be updated.
