Description:

An all-day event for middle/high school students held at WSU Vancouver; co-sponsored with ESD112 Youth Workforce Programs and WSU Vancouver Student Services. Community and campus volunteers taught classes in Career Exploration, Summer Employment and College Preparation.


2006 May PACE Group

Impacts:

  • One hundred eight (108) teens attended.
  • Of these, 80 completed conference evaluations.
  • Teen participant profile:
    • 40% male
    • 60% female
    • 69% White
    • 6% Black
    • 5% Ukrainian
    • 4% Mexican
    • 3% Native American
    • 1% Asian
    • 12% Other
  • Age range from 12 years to 20 years of age
    • Average 16.24 years of age.
    • Twenty-three (23) middle/high schools were represented
  • Counties of residence were Clark, Cowlitz, Thurston.
  • Twenty-four volunteer instructors and presenters provided approximately 70 hours of small group/large group instruction.

Participants ranked the following on a scale of 1-5 with 5 being "strongly agree":
This conference helped me feel more confident about being successful in the world of work:4.23
This conference increased my awareness of job/career options: 4.44
This conference helped better prepare me to make job/career decisions: 4.23
I plan to use ideas, materials and/or skills from today's conference: 4.28
