Background
The Center for Youth Workforce Preparation was
established in October 2005. It is a partnership effort of Washington State University Vancouver, Washington
State University Extension, Washington State University 4-H and community partners. As of January 2008, CYWP
programs have reached 1,170 youth and more than 130 adult volunteers.
Vision
The State of Washington will include a workforce comprised of motivated individuals
who continually renew their knowledge and skills and are productive and effective.
Mission
To create opportunities for learning so that youth and adults
can successfully navigate the transitions of school-to-work and work-to-work
in a diverse and changing workplace.
Purpose
To marshal the extension, teaching and research resources of
Washington State University Vancouver, Washington State University
Extension and community partners to address youth workforce
preparation on a local and regional basis.
Goal
To promote post-high school education, career exploration, develop
workforce competencies, promote positive youth development and celebrate diversity.
Focus
Science, technology, engineering & math (STEM) concepts and other disciplines are taught
through informal education in home, school, and community settings.
Primary Audience
Middle school, high school and college students.
