Frequently Asked Questions
What test should I take, and when should I take it?
If your high school graduation date is 2006 or later and you plan to apply for admission to the University, you must:
- Take the current SAT test (Critical Reading, Mathematics, and Writing).
OR - Take the ACT assessment plus the ACT Writing Test during the same sitting.
What if I graduated from high school before 2006?
- You can either submit your scores from the past SAT or ACT examinations, or submit the new scores for admission purposes.
If I take the ACT Assessment, can I use the SAT subject test in writing (instead of the ACT Writing Test) to fulfill the writing requirement?
- No. If you choose to take the ACT assessment, you need to take the ACT Writing test in combination with it. The University will not accept the SAT writing test as a substitute for the ACT Writing Test.
If I take the ACT or SAT examinations more than once, will the University use my highest score?
- Yes. The University will use the highest score from a single testing administration.
How do I submit my scores?
- Please have your official test scores sent directly from the testing agency. Indicate on your test that you'd like your scores sent directly to Washington State University.
