Description: Food service worker, position will include basic food prep & cooking, barista (espresso machine), cashier, customer service, catering set-up and delivery, general cleaning. Rate of pay is $10.62 for work-study students and $8.07 for non work-study employees. Once work-study funds are depleted, rate of pay will revert to minimum wage.

Job Requirements: Must have Clark County Health Department Food Handler’s Permit; ability to life 50 lbs, excellent personal hygiene, honest, hardworking and good verbal communication skills. Some food service and/or cashiering experience is preferable, but not required.

Advising Assistant
Education

Hourly Rate of Pay: $12.00 - $16.25/hr DOE

Start Date: ASAP

Hours: 20 hours/wk

Description: Database management: update and maintain accurate student information; create customized data retrieval for reports; develop reports for various constituencies including WSUV Education Dept faculty/staff, Pullman College of Education, Pullman Teaching & Learning Dept. Student records: organize application files and interview processes for pre-service applicants; monitor and maintain accurate files for education program admitted students; maintain archived files; collect various forms and documents, verifying accurate and complete information; answer general student questions regarding forms and document requirements; verify Office of Professional Practices, FBI, and WSP fingerprint clearances. Academic records: utilize WSU student record systems to monitor enrollment, course completion, teacher certification, and graduation. Liaison with WSU Teaching & Learning Dept: transfer of data and files, both electronic and paper; maintain communication links with appropriate individuals/offices when deemed necessary. Student interactions: determine when it is appropriate to contact students; coordinate student application interviews.

Minimum Qualifications: MS Office proficiency; detail-oriented; customer service experience; ability to prioritize projects and meet deadlines; strong written and oral communication skills; ability to work independently; experience interpreting policies/regulations; ability to troubleshoot and make appropriate referrals to Academic Coordinators, faculty or other WSU offices; experience in office environment.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree; database experience/management.

Diversity Council Internship

The Diversity Council announces that applications for its 2008-09 Student Internship are now being accepted. The intern will work with the Diversity Council Chair and the Diversity Faculty Fellow to assist in developing and implementing Council goals and activities. Interns will have the opportunity to explore personal areas of interest related to diversity in higher education. The intern is expected to work about 10 hours per week throughout the 2008-09 academic and receive a stipend of $10 per hour. The intern will also earn course credit for their service and for completing an independent project each semester.

AmeriCorps Member/Civic Engagement Specialist

Rate of Pay: Living stipend of $11,400 paid bimonthly for 10.5 months

Start Date: September 1, 2008

End Date: July 15, 2009

Hours: 40.0 hours/wk

Description: WSU Vancouver is recruiting one full-time AmeriCorps member to assist the campus in developing a Civic Engagement Center and to coordinate a pilot mentoring project connected to service learning with a local high school. Tasks will include developing a database of current civic engagement projects on the campus and of community organizations looking to partner with the campus, working with Student Affairs, WSU Pullman's Center for Civic Engagement and campus faculty to develop a plan for a Civic Engagement Center, helping connect students with identified opportunities, and working with several students on a service learning project with a local high school. AmeriCorps members serve full-time (40 hrs/wk), for 10.5 months with varying work hours, and are considered employees of AmeriCorps not WSU Vancouver.

Minimum Qualifications: AA or BA/BS degree. Enthusiasm and self-direction. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to adhere to complex policies and regulations. Some experience with creating web pages. Commitment to working with diverse student and community populations. U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent U.S. Resident. Enrollment in Electronic Funds Transfer to receive bimonthly stipend.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with spreadsheets/databases. Experience as a mentor to high school or college students. Experience working on a college or university campus.

Technical Assistant I
Vancouver Information Technology

Hourly Rate of Pay: $11.36 per hour

Hours: 8.0 to 10.0 hours per week

Description: Computer Lab Assistant is responsible for assisting customers in the open student computing labs by providing quality service and support. This assistance includes questions related to the software and hardware in the lab, general network connectivity issue for wireless, and support for WSU Network ID and Unix accounts. In addition, the Computer Lab Assistant is to maintain security and cleanliness in the labs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assist customers with various aspects of computer operation in open access computer lab environment, including questions regarding software, hardware, operating systems, printing, training, and the Internet.
  2. Respond to customer problems and follow up when immediate solutions are not available and/or report problems to senior technicians in VIT office
  3. Implement work-around solutions when permanent solutions require more time or outside assistance.
  4. Research answers to customer's questions.
  5. Operate computer peripheral equipment including networked printer, scanners, zip drives, CD burners and other equipment that VIT makes available to computer lab customers.
  6. Perform maintenance duties on lab equipment such as cleaning.
  7. Perform basic troubleshoots for customers who call or walk in regarding connecting personal laptops to wireless.
  8. Assist customers with Network ID and Unix accounts.
  9. Move around lab every 15-30 minutes to assist customers, push in chairs, and clean lab.
  10. Read and respond to email daily.
  11. Maintain consistent schedule and work with team to supply substitutes when necessary.
  12. Attend Lab Team Meetings, including mandatory orientation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Basic knowledge of computer software and hardware.
  2. Excellent customer service skills.
  3. Able to work as a team.

Preferred Qualifications: Prefer experience with web page editors, file transfer programs such as FTP, general operating system functions (scans, preferences, logins, reboots, etc.)
