Mission Statement
The University endeavors to model for the state and nation, a community of individuals who seek what is best for each other. The University respects and significantly benefits from diversity as expressed through racial/ethnic, gender, cultural, disability, age, sexual orientation, religious, and socioeconomic differences among faculty, staff and students. It takes seriously its responsibility to offer educational and professional opportunities equitably to all qualified persons it can accommodate. The University, through its curriculum, programs, and services, provides understanding and supportive interaction among diverse population groups and respects individuals' personal values and ideas.
Goals and Strategies
1. Provide leadership and encourage an administrative structure that creates systems of accountability in teaching, research, and service to all communities, including those underrepresented.
2. Create at Washington State University Vancouver an institutional environment that is safe and inclusive for work and learning.
3. Develop curriculum and scholarship that enhance learning about, and respect for, diversity and equality.
4. Student enrollment, retention, and degree completion. Provide structures for academic success and increased access to higher education for a diversified student body, evidenced through recruitment, retention, and degree completion rates comparable across all subgroups of the student population.
5. Faculty and staff recruitment, employment and retention. Provide structures to recruit, employ, develop, and retain a diversified workforce that includes all underrepresented groups but is not limited to those classes protected by federal and state law.
Philosophy
At WSU Vancouver we strive to see diversity acknowleged in all aspects of what we do. The diversity council is committed to facilitating involvement from all students, staff and faculty on campus.
