PARKING Q & A
Where do I park if I’m coming to campus less than twice a week?
- Daily parking passes may be purchased at the cafeteria and the Bookie, in addition to the Parking Services office and the Cashier’s desk. Please note that daily permits are valid only in the lot marked at the bottom of the permit. Daily permits will be sold in varying lots as space permits. Please check your permit before parking to ensure you are in the correct lot for your permit.
- Pay meters (2-hour limit) are currently located in the Orange 1, Orange 2, and Orange 3 lots. Please note that permits are not valid at any meter. The timed meters in the Visitor’s loop (in front of the VADM/VCLS buildings) offer 30-minutes of free parking at user-activated meters, with time limits being strictly enforced 7 days a week (to activate the 30-minute timer, user must push the button or turn the knob).
- The Blue lot is also available as a daily parking option. The automated machine in this lot accepts exact change only and does not make change. Please note the machine is battery operated and care should be taken to follow the posted instructions (“press any button to “wake” the machine”) before proceeding with ticket purchase. All receipts must be displayed clearly, face-up, on the dashboard of the vehicle using the parking space. No refunds can be given for money lost in the machine.
How do I avoid getting a parking ticket on campus?
- As the campus continues to grow, parking in the lots will continue to be at or near capacity. To avoid receiving tickets, please keep in mind the following tips.
Upon exiting the vehicle check to see that:
- The vehicle is parked within the white lines of the parking space (even if no one is currently parked near the vehicle)
- Your permit or receipt is displayed properly (i.e.: receipt from Blue lot on dashboard, date filled in correctly on 10-day passes, correct date scratched or punched out on scratch permits)
- The vehicle is parked in an allowable lot for the permit currently in the vehicle.
- When using the Blue lot for daily parking, keep an extra daily scratch permit (same price) in your vehicle. If you arrive at the Blue lot machine and it is not working properly, contact Parking Services at 546-9009. If you cannot wait for an officer to fix the machine, you can move to the lot marked on the daily permit and use that to avoid being late for your class or meeting.
- If you get to campus and find you have left your valid semester or annual permit in another vehicle or location (does not apply to daily, monthly, or 10-day use permits), you may request a temporary one-day permit from the Dept. of Parking Services. Valid permit holders may drive around to our office where they will have their permit ownership verified and receive a permit to place in their car for the day.
What should I do if I get a ticket?
- Some ticket fines can be reduced by half if paid/postmarked within 24 hours of issue and appeals are possible within ten days of issue only. The options for warnings, reduction of fines, and appealing tickets are greater within 24 hours of issue and are no longer available once the ticket is past 10 days from its issue date. If you have questions about a ticket you have received, please contact a member of Parking Services within this time frame (contact information listed below). Any other source of information regarding parking on campus is unreliable.
