Pullman Courier - Supplies and Empty Envelopes
Courier Supplies (envelopes and labels) are kept in the Mailroom. Order by sending an Email To The Mailroom including what you need, and how many. Courier envelopes and labels are "overhead" and are not individually charged.
To return empty courier envelopes to the Mailroom please put the envelopes in a bundle, with a note on the front, as individual envelopes are only going to be returned to the last name on the envelope
Mailroom staff do not look inside envelopes, so any loose envelope with a name is going to be sorted and sent to that person, which means you should not toss your empty envelope in the OUT box - unless you have a BUNDLE of empty envelopes, with a note on the bundle, to be returned to the Mailroom for use by someone else
Pullman Courier - Tracking a Package
- All Courier mail and packages are placed in a large plastic box to go on the overnight truck to Pullman
- Individual courier mail items do not have any tracking "identity"
- If you wish to have your item to Pullman tracked and logged, you will need to use FedEx or UPS or US Mail Delivery Confirmation Tracking Information
Pullman Courier (Green) Labels
If you have any of the old Pullman labels that ask for Name and Department, please THROW THEM AWAY since they will no longer work for courier delivery. Contact the Mailroom (email above) for a supply of the Pullman labels that ask for Name plus Building and Room Number.
Branch Campus labels do not require Building and Room Number (not as many people, so easier to deliver the mail) so you many continue to use the "old style" labels for each Branch Campus in the system
Pullman Courier - Contract Carrier Schedule
- As of October 2002, FedEx is used for courier mail (interoffice envelopes and boxes) to-from Pullman, with the courier mail box scheduled to leave the Mailroom loading dock at 3:30 PM each work day.
- Please note that the Courier service runs on a "Hub and Spoke" process, with Pullman being the "Hub" and each Branch Campus being a "Spoke" of the wheel. This means that courier mail sent from one Branch Campus to another FIRST goes to Pullman for sorting and forwarding. So please allow an extra work day for all courier mail you send to another Branch Campus.
- Courier mail arrives at Pullman sometime the next day (the exact time, as is the case here at Vancouver, will vary depending on weather and road conditions between Vancouver and Pullman) and is then sorted for delivery, with the exact time any item will be delivered to the Pullman Department being determined by (as is the case here in Vanouver) the total workload at the Pullman courier operations center... but the PLANNED delivery at Pullman is sometime each afternoon.
- Since courier mail is delivered in the afternoon at Pullman, to the Department where it is further sorted for the individual person, you will need to send any item a day early if it must be to a person in the morning (ie - must be to a person on Friday morning, you will need to send it Wednesday for Thursday afternoon delivery to the Pullman Department, to then be to the person by Friday morning)
- Please also read FedEx and Direct Delivery to a Pullman Location
- When placing a Routing Label on a box, please put the label in a CORNER to allow space for the courier shipping tag. Please also use a heavy marker to cover any old address on your item, so the courier sorting crew will not be confused and return your item for clarification.
- Please use an appropriate, colored, Courier Label on ALL intercampus mail going to Pullman or another Branch Campus, or you run the risk of having your mail returned by the sorting staff in Pullman - they sort thousands of items a day, and need the routing labels to insure that mail goes to the right person or Department.
- When entering information on the Green label for Pullman mail, please be sure to enter the Person's Name, Building AND Room Number, or your mail may be returned by Pullman. Also Please use a blue or black ballpoint ink pen (not a hard to read pastel color) or an indelible marker when putting addresses on all mail.
- If all you have is the person's name (or Department) and a Pullman Campus Zip code, you may enter Name-or-Department AND Campus Zip on the courier label and your mail will be delivered. However, do be aware that Campus Zip mail must be transferred to a different delivery organization at Pullman, so your mail may take an extra day to be delivered.
- Please NOTE that "Campus Zip Code" for Courier delivery to Pullman is the US Postal Service PLUS-FOUR code, such as the 1025 part of 99164-1025, not the 5-digit Zip Code itself, which is for the entire Pullman campus, not a specific delivery address
Pullman Courier - Incoming Courier Mail
- The Courier from Pullman delivers each work day, with the arrival time being based on the FASTEST item being delivered that day.
- The Courier box itself is sent STANDARD overnight, which means FedEx has until 3:00 PM to make delivery. If the Courier box is received here that late, while afternoon deliveries are being made on campus, the mail will be delivered on campus the next morning.
- IF there is a PRIORITY overnight item sent here, the Courier box will also arrive by 10:30 AM and the mail will be delivered the same afternoon.
- Any delays in receiving the courier box will, of course, mean a corresponding delay in delivery. (such as snow in the mountain) Depending on volume, sorting this mail should take approximately one hour.
- Since Time Sensitive mail is delivered by the Pullman Courier (such as payroll worksheets) the morning delivery will be delivered to WSU Vancouver mail stops as soon as the mail is sorted, varying between a 10 and 11 AM starting time. Therefore the only firm mail delivery schedule will be for afternoon pickups, starting at 2 PM, designed to insure Pullman mail goes out at approximately 3:30 PM.
